Mexico City Travel Guide 2015

Day 1

Honestly, this day was pretty boring, and we didn't do much, just got on the airplane, but what wasn't boring, was the night view of the city. One thing that was pretty crazy was we could see lightning from the plane, and being a Southern California kid, thats pretty new.

Over the City.

Day 2

First we went to the market in Coyoacan and we ate some yummy food. I had chilaquiles with chicken and it was really good. Then we went to one of the coolest museums, Casa de Azul, which was actually Frida Kahlo's house from when she was a kid to an adult. It was really cool because there was a room with her and Diego's paintings, but there were also rooms with her bed and her studio.

They where made by famous designers like Givenchy for this museum.

Casa de Azul.

Then we went to dinner, at my favorite place, called Lampuga. I had mahi mahi fish with an amazing crust. It came with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. It was delicious! Then we walked around for a bit and stopped at oxxo for popsicles.

Lampuga Bistrot in the Condesa.

Day 3

First we went to Cafe Illuminista. I had one of the best caramel lattes ever! They also have a cute dog named Layla. Later my friends were touring UNAM, the main big university and I didn't really need to go because I'm pretty far from college so I actually went to the mall. I know its funny but it was near by and we had heard of some Zara chains that we don't have in the U.S. They were called Bershka and Pull and Bear. From Bershka I got a skirt and from Pull and Bear I got some sandals.

The mall had an umbrella roof!

Then we went to two museums. The first one, Soumaya Museo, was pretty cool inside and out. It had an amazing Sophia Loren exhibit with her clothing and magazines and other things. (I will do a separate blog post on that!)

This is the outside of the Museum.

How is this possible?! It's one piece of Marble, not fabric!

My favorite coat from the museum.
We where actually stuck in the rain at the Museum's coffee shop while I took this picture.

Running.

Then we went to the Museo de Jumex which had one of my moms favorite artists, Alexander Calder. After we went to the coffee shop in the Museum and it was raining really hard! Then we took a taxi home and got ready for dinner at Pleno. At Pleno I had Chicken. The restaurant was really funny. We had our own little room (There was 7 of us) where we could play our own music!

A Calder sculpture.

Day 4

We went to a shoe store that my Mom really wanted to go called Goodbye Folk. They have really cute handmade shoes and clothing. They also have some other shops around that area.

They make their own shoes and sell vintage clothes, too.

Then we stopped at one of the cutest little coffee shop called Cucurucho. They have a few of these shops in the city. I didnt have any coffee that afternoon, but I had a pretty good cookie!
Later we went to dinner at Merotoro. This was probably my least favorite meal, which was surprising, because the chef has a restaurant in Ensenada which I absolutely love! (That would be Laja Restaurant in the Valle de Guadalupe.)

Green. A lot of green.
Cucurucho!

Walking.

Day 5

First we went to walk around for a bit in the Central neighborhood, bear the Palacio de Belles Artes, a really cool looking building, and found a little place to eat, I can't remember the name, but it was good. Then we went to the Museo Franz Mayer to see a bicycle exhibit but that wasn't there. It didn't matter, it was a really cool museum. My favorite exhibit was called "Tapas." It had all of these cool food tools.

Later when walking back in the Condesa neighborhood we spotted this cool looking Italian restaurant and ate there. It was called Nonna and it ended up being really good. I had bolognase lasagna.

Beautiful buildings.

Nonna's.

Day 6

On our last day, we walked around the Condessa for a while. Over the 6 days, we walked and in around there many times. It is a beautiful neighborhood with so many trees and parks and cute little restaurants and coffee shops. We stopped at a restaurant called Primos. It reminded me of a place in San Diego called Jaynes. Then we went back to the house to pack up. Im very happy that I got the chance to go to Mexico City! I had so much fun!

Raining, but no one really cares.

Museum cafes.

My Five Summer Picks

This “Positive vibes only” tee will go really cute with some jeans and white sneakers for a refreshing spring look. Its light weight and the cursive writing is adorable. I also love how the sleeves are rolled up. I honestly think tee shirts always look cuter when you roll up the sleeves.

Honestly I love button ups. Especially in white. Another thing I love is chambray shirts. This one, from Topshop, has a really clean cut. It will also go with almost anything.

White jeans can look so clean (but get unclean very fast.) I think they will be awesome with a denim shirt and some cute brown sandals or a tee and sneakers.

The perfect summer shoe. I love espadrilles and these leopard ones are so cute.  They will make any outfit summer-ready!

The little black dress is great for night but the little white dress is ideal for summer days. Pair with sandals and a hat and you have an easy and perfect summer outfit.

Winter Essentials

Fun Sunglasses. I know that its winter but fun sunglasses are the perfect accessory for anytime of the year! There are so many fun styles to play around with. They can make a plain white tee, jeans and sneakers, a stylish, not boring, outfit! You can play around with different shapes, sizes and colors. Mine even have writing!

Comfy Pullovers. Comfy sweaters are perfect for the winter time. If you live where it is warm, like me, they go perfect with some jeans and booties. If it is cold where you live, they are perfect for layering. You can wear a long sleeve shirt underneath, a cute parka jacket, boots and you've got yourself a cute day to night outfit. Just add some gloves, a scarf and a beanie. I like my sweatshirts to be in neutral colors. I don't wear much color anyway, but if i wanted i could add a colorful jacket without them clashing. My favorite comfy sweater from Zara is black white and gray and goes with pretty much anything!

Similar to mine

NYX Matte Lipstick in Tea Rose. I love matte lipstick to begin with but this one from nyx is my favorite. I love the consistency of these lipsticks, but once I bought one in the shade hippie chic (a yellow toned pink) and it did not glide on as smooth, I also think it was the color of the lipstick. But tea rose is perfect. There are few colors i look good in, dark plums and mauve pinks. Tea rose is a mauve pink lipstick. When i wear this lipstick I dont usually wear a lip liner, because its a matte lipstick and i dont usually need it. But if I do then I usually use petal from bh cosmetics or rose by nyx. Rose matches a little better but I haven't used it that much because i just purchased it.

Urban Outfitters Nail Polish in Bombay Funk. Every time I hear this name I laugh a little. They definitely have some funny names for nail polish. Bombay Funk is a burgundy-purple color, perfect for winter time. I love colors like these for this time of the year. Burgundies are festive because the are close to red, but you can still wear them all year. I love Urban's nail polish because of the color selection, but they definitely chip easily. Just use a really strong top coat and it will be fine.

Clinique Lash Building Primer. I got this in a little sample kit from Clinique and I absolutely love it. It helps separate the lashes and preps them for mascara. This stuff really works. I've noticed that my lashes are fuller and my mascara is not as clumpy. I use a Too Faced Mascara or a Clinique Mascara, but you can use it with any drugstore or high end mascara. I only have a sample size but I will definitely be getting the full size!
